The Greek Cooperative Tobacco Industry (SEKAP) is established through the initiative of the great visionary and cooperative member Alexandros Baltatzis and the Cooperative Union of Tobacco producers in Greece (SEKE) in Xanthi. The main purpose of SEKAP was to support the income of the Greek tobacco producers, by permanently giving them better princes for their tobacco, thus embarking on a broader social role. Soon, SEKAP developed to become a modern company, active in the field of the production, distribution and trade of cigarettes and tobacco products in the Greek as well as on the International markets.

The two first SEKAP brands, “SEKAP” and “KIRETZILER” are introduced onto the market.

COOPER, the 1st Greek Blend, is launched to the market and becomes the number 1 commercial success for SEKAP.

GR LIGHTS is launched as an expansion to the GR family, becoming the 2nd largest commercial success for SEKAP.

BF is introduced onto the market. SEKAP launches the revolutionary ‘BIO-FILTER’, the first internationally recognized biological filter, the result of a discovery by Greek scientists.

ΒΙΟ Industrial Company SA., a subsidiary of SEKAP, is established. With its cutting-edge equipment, it produces and commercializes a particular type of active carbon, especially infused with biological substances, in order to produce biological filters.

Biological filters are exported to Russia, to DONSKOY company, which is now the mother company, in order to produce biological cigarettes, enjoying enormous export success.

The modern ERP information system is installed, aiming to optimize the management of the data which necessary to make business decisions.

GR INTERNATIONAL is launched, and is a new huge commercial success for SEKAP. The new GR International 25 almost doubles SEKAP’s share of the domestic market (from 6% to 12%).

Two new lines are purchased for production, cigarette-making and packaging, in order to cover the production needs for the GR 25 packs.

Large investments in the department for processing tobacco and stems (primary), aiming to optimize the blended tobacco produced.

Α large-scale, 18-million Euro investment project takes place, through the acquisition and installation of 3 state-of-the-art production lines for cigarettes and packs (2 for the RC 25 pack and 1 for the RC 20 pack) and 1 filter machine.

A new machine for producing filters is acquired.

A new system for tobacco supply and for dust extraction is installed.

Α new production and packaging line for tobacco in bags is acquired and installed.

This investment modernized the company’s mechanical equipment, thus enabling SEKAP to produce quality and competitive products in both Greece and abroad.

COOPER INTERNATIONAL 25 is launched, as an addition to the COOPER family. It is a new commercial success, within an extremely competitive environment as well as difficult times for SEKAP.

SEKAP begins to produce and package slim cigarettes, through launching its ‘slim styles’, which are GR SLIMS and COOPER SLIMS. These products contribute considerably to the increase of its export volume.

Equipment is acquired to produce a deluxe metal case as well as the appropriate equipment to produce loose tobacco in 15 gr bags.

The entire range of logos for the GR INTERNATIONAL family (23’s, 20’s, 100 & slims) undergoes an important artistic design change.
